 Young People's Comments

This is what the Young People have said about our work:

"I have been attending the Amber Project ... and have enjoyed participating in the theatre workshops run in association with Theatr Fforwm Cymru during this time."

"We play games and laugh and can be a bit daft during the sessions. As someone who has suffered from depression for about 8 years, I don't feel I've had enough laughs during my life and so the games and humour are important to me."

"The project works with young people who have experience of self-harm or emotional difficulties. This means that I 'fit in' where in other groups I often feel like an outsider and that nobody will understand me. Because I feel accepted in the group, I am more confident and able to be myself without fear of rejection."

"Amber is cool and supportive."

"You don't feel pushed out and alone when you self harm because you know there are others the same as you."

"I like toast, it's very therapeutic."

"I like toast too!"

"It's nice to celebrate people's birthdays. Each time I've come I've had cake!!"

"Every week there's something different so if you don't like one week's activity you will probably like the next."

"It keeps you going through the week to know you have Amber on Friday's – it's something to look forward to."

"Everyone is different and welcome."

"It's somewhere I can relax."

"It's great to chill with people who understand me."

More Comments

"I'd known about Amber for ages and it took me a while to pick up the phone - I wish I'd done it earlier."

"I took me my second time to come along but it was worth it. Because it's a Church Army project, I thought it would be like going to church, but it's not at all and I wish I'd had more of an open mind the first time I met Caryl."

"The day I'd organised to meet Caryl, I didn't want to go and I had an argument with my mum but my friend made me go – and I'm really glad I did."

"When I was referred to Amber, I was really nervous. Because I didn't know anyone I didn't want to go along. I felt it would be really strange and I thought I was the only person who used to self-harm. I think it's a really great place because it made me 1 – come out of myself and 2 – help me work through issues."

"I like the fact that I can get in touch with Amber in lots of different ways: text, phone or email. So even if I don't feel like seeing someone, I can still talk to them and be heard."

"When I'm in crisis I know I can get support from Amber – even if it means meeting up for a cup of tea and toast. I really feel supported."

"All the young people at Amber know how it feels to go for the first time, so can empathise with anyone who feels nervous about coming along."
