It costs us over £500 thousand pounds every year to house and directly support homeless young people. With your help we can continue to provide them with a future.
Our focus this year will be to continue providing a range of in house activities, including cookery workshops, fitness classes and bicycle rides. In partnership with the Cardiff County Council's 'Street Based Team' we will be offering a trip to Storey Arms in the Brecon Beacons, where young people can experience activities such as orienteering and abseiling. Other trips on offer will be paintballing, barbecues, trips to the beach and Oakwood theme park.
Many of the young people who access our services have limited literacy and numeracy skills and are reluctant to access services to address this need. However, the young people are comfortable with using the computer facilities available in the resource room at Ty Bronna and would be more likely to engage in learning if it could take place in a safe and secure environment. We would like to provide in house training in Essential Skills, covering numeracy, literacy and IT and hope to raise sufficient funds to purchase a software program that will enable young people to achieve an approved standard and recognised qualification and realise their potential.
In 2009, we introduced the 'Reward and Credit' scheme. This scheme was introduced as an incentive for young people to achieve a goal, that has been agreed with their support worker and on completion receive either, a cinema voucher, food voucher or mobile top up voucher. This has acted as a great incentive for some young people who are reluctant to engage with training, to increase their motivation and take some responsibility in addressing their needs and improving their living skills.
If you would like to support our work and help us to continue to provide activities for the young people who access our services, there are many ways you can donate, from making an online donation to giving us non perishable food, toiletries or vouchers.
