Discovering Faith in Later Life
Where did the DFiLL series come from?
|
|
Mike has been working with older people since his commissioning in 1976. Based on Mike's experience he convened a Church Army group made up of evangelists engaged in ministry with older people. Together they soon became aware of the lack of written resources and models or working with this age group. It was this challenge coupled with his study for a Masters Degree in Applied Theology that prompted Mike to research and visit what seemed to him to be innovative ways of working with older people.
The DFiLL series is a resource to motivate, challenge and encourage the wider church to take the spiritual needs of older people seriously. The series also engages in some theological reflection to assist leaders to think theologically about the work they are doing and to think about how a mission-shaped church might respond to the ever increasing older population who no longer have experience of church, or indeed lack a basic understanding of the Christian faith.

The series has inspired the wider church to follow-up and promote work with older people in their own areas. Please download as many issues as you want - there is no charge and you can print off as many copies as you want to for training days that you may be thinking of running. On request to the Sheffield Centre we can send you hard copies for which there will be a small charge.
Church Amy has been working with older people for over 120 years, and is a founder member of Age Concern England and Friends of the Elderly. With this long tradition, Church Army is one of the few mission agencies that take evangelising older people through words and action seriously by sharing faith in very practical ways, mainly by building relationships and even developing fresh expression of church for older people.
