Ecology and community

Issue26

A Rocha
Many people today have heard of the A Rocha movement, are international family of conservation projects and attendant Christian communities. It is a particular way of expressing mission and growing church offering an attractive counter cultural stance which we suspect is likely to be the address of the church in the future.

Are A Rocha communities fresh expressions of church? What are the values that shape their lives together? What kind of leadership style have they evolved? How have they multiplied their communities are maintained quality of relationship and of community?

While addressing ecology specifically, this issue looks further more generally to any church with a specific calling or charism. It explores the parallels Christian communities like this have with monastic communities and suggests that the time is coming when working on the margins or society, learning to operate from places of vulnerability rather than power and growing authentic Christian community to sustain us in this calling will be things many will be increasingly called to.
