Why Re-imagine the Church?

This is not a new thing. It has happened before; the New Testament goes beyond the Old Testament understanding of the people of God, the Reformation introduced many necessary changes, ecumenism has made us aware of diverse practices, cross cultural mission has challenged inherited forms of church.

Today in the West, inherited church is often out of touch with those under 40, as well as the poor and the vast numbers who have never been part of a church community. Moreover our internal squabbles and unconvincing lives make the credibility gap massive. Yet Jesus present among his people continues to be transformative and attractive.

We need to re-imagine, to get back to our roots, to connect better with the present and be more ready to contribute positively to the future.

My work is partly to watch what God is already doing is this field. I try to spot what his pioneers begin. My roving role then enables me to compare examples and learn more, understanding further how these fresh expressions work. My observations then appear in the publications like the Encounters On The Edge series, in training, speaking and books. They are offered as seeds of understanding for others to plant in their context.

Partnership with Fresh Expressions

Since starting this website we have joined in partnership with the Fresh Expressions team to form the Share website. A part of that website is the most comprehensive guide to fresh expressions we know of, so rather than repeat information here, can we invite you to go to The Guide on the Share website, direct link is here:www.sharetheguide.org/guide.

An Online Library

We have also begun work on pulling together an Online Library of theses written around the area of church planting and fresh expressions. Please click on this link to go to our library:  Online Library
