Michael Collyer

Mike retired in March 2010. His main role was to explore evangelism, spiritual needs and fresh expression of church among older people.

He is a Commissioned Church Army Evangelist who worked mainly with older people for most of his 34 years of ministry. Formerly a residential care home manager for Church Army and focus group convenor for CA personnel engaged with evangelism and older people.

His professional passion in mission is to challenge the churches attitude to ageing in which older people feel undervalued and invisible. He has fond memories as manager of Holy Bush lodge a former residential care home for older people. Mikes other passions are steam engines, stamp collecting, model London Transport buses and cacti. What connections do these have? None at all - he isn't much into making connections!

Mike says...

New life for me began at the age of 17 during a Lee Abbey Youth Camp in August 1962 when Jesus metaphorically speaking 'knocked on my door'. My life took a complete u-turn and I immediately had a desire to share my faith through some kind of Christian ministry.

Mike & Jan
Mike and his wife Jan:

CMS was my first thought and after enquiry, persuaded me that I should complete my engineering training and education at Technical College with the Ministry of Defence. In the meantime I became a Pathfinder and CYFA group leader got married to Jan had two children and God's plan eventually led to me to being accepted for training with the Church Army in 1974.
