South Greenwich Centre of Mission
Nick Russell has worked in the Ferrier estate since 1999 in the parish of Kidbrooke in South East London. The three key aspects of his work are the development of Superkidz, the initiation and growth of the adult drop-in coffee shop and the work with young offenders from the estate. There are many other opportunities for ministry in this tough London estate. Nick has a strong awareness of the needs of the families on the estate and he has also done much work as an advocate for the community.
The key areas of outreach and ministry are work with the young families through Superkidz, the work with addicts and other vulnerable adults through Coffee Stop and the work with young offenders. Sizzle and Soul (which is a short service with bacon and egg sandwiches served) is a church service that provides a focal point for much of the work. Ferrier Friendship Tea is a Fresh Expression specifically to meet the needs of a non-book congregation many of whom have learning difficulties and mental health problems and addictions. Recently the ministry has widened to other estates including Middle Park and Horn Park in the Parish of Eltham where Church Army already have a good relationship. Nick and Craig work with young offenders who have challenging behaviour, and they develop effective strategies to help them spiritually, psychologically and practically.
