Willowfield Centre of Mission
George Newell works in a supportive and interdependent team in East Belfast. The team includes the Rev. David McClay (Rector) and evangelist Richard Waller amongst others. George leads outreach teams in Willowfield & Mount Merrion and weekly overseeing four different street outreach projects including Healing on the Streets every Saturday morning. The Centre of Mission has a clear sense of vision for the community that they are based in.
There are numerous opportunities and a breadth of ministry here at Willowfield. These opportunities include: Just 55 (Fresh Expression which centres round a meal and worship), a weekly lunch club for those who otherwise would not receive a hot meal. There is also a vibrant youth ministry, a Kids Klub and schools ministry. There is a growing ministry reaching out to the Afro-Caribbean community and English classes and drop-ins for those from Eastern Europe. Bi-monthly there are Community Outreach events in the church which attract large numbers of local people who otherwise would not attend church. There is a significant ministry to the poor, with a Besom project, food-store ministry and a new CAP Centre (Christians Against Poverty).
George and the team work and live in a loyalist area where paramilitaries in the past have had a significant presence and influence.
