Bridgebuilders Welcomed to Church Army College
Called to share the Christian Gospel as "Bridgebuilders", 13 women and men were welcomed on Sunday to begin their training at Church Army's Wilson Carlile College of Evangelism in Sheffield by the Principal, the Rev David Jeans, and the Society's Chief Secretary, Philip Johanson.
The group include a nurse, glassworks engineer, skate boarding youth worker, shoe shop manager, comic strip writer, CID Detective Sergeant and a Swiss Reformed Church lay deacon. They were welcomed by the College community, Board members and other Church Army colleagues.
In his address, Captain Johanson said the new Evangelists-in-Training were already bridgebuilders, and as such would be called on to break down cultural and religious barriers, develop community links, and build relationships with people. He trusted that their time in College would not, as one theological lecturer had put it, "make them more confused at a more informed theological level".
