Science Teacher Joins Church Army Promotion Team
From the two unusual backgrounds of marketing insecticides and 20 years as a science teacher, Peter Sellars (52) has just joined the promotion team of Church Army. Living in Fernhurst, Haslemere, Peter wishes to use his creative communication skills in a direction more relevant to his Christian faith.
Peter admits: "I lost my religion after going to university, leaving with PhD in Biochemistry. In my thirties, it was the process of bringing up children and the love in rearing them that brought me to an awareness of the need for God in my life. My wife had a similar experience and the involvement of our local Anglican school and church community showed the relevance of Christ in dealing with everyday problems."
Continuing, Peter said: "Church Army breaks the mould by not only bringing people to faith in Christ but by being practical as well." He will be promoting and seeking support for Church Army in the Church of England dioceses of Chichester, Guildford, Portsmouth and Winchester.
Peter, with wife Shelagh and children Jonathan (19) and Lizzie (14), is fully involved with St Margaret's, Fernhurst, by editing the Parish News and being the administrator for Alpha Courses - which aim to introduce enquirers to the Christian faith. His interests include IT, publishing and writing about the interface between science and religion.
He refuses to be drawn as to whether or not he has ever been mistaken for the other "Peter Sellars".
