Korean War loan pays interest for Church Army after 50 years
The recent coverage of Church Army to commemorate Church Army Sunday (September 26th) clearly did something to rekindle old memories of favours from years past. The Sidcup based mission agency received a letter from a Mr Knowles who borrowed ten shillings from a Church Army Captain out in Korea after the Second World War. Mr Knowles writes.I had very little money and asked the Captain to lend me ten shillings which he agreed. I am ashamed to say that I reneged on the agreement to repay the money. This debt has crossed my mind many times during the last 50 years so please accept this cheque for £50.50. Good luck, good health and God Bless."
David Coleman, Church Armys Communications Manager, comments: We are delighted that Mr Knowles still thinks about the kindness he was shown by our officer after such a long time - sharing faith through words and action can have a practical reward here on earth after all.
