A prayer for those affected by the 'Asian Tsunami'

Heavenly Father,

In some ways it seems so long ago since Boxing Day when the Tsunami wave hit and news broke of the suffering and devastation it had caused. Much has happened since then, but there is much that still needs to happen.

We thank you and praise you, God, for the gifts of imagination and generosity which have prompted so many to give and to act. Thank you for this outpouring of compassion, thank you for all who have demonstrated their care for those in need.

Help us, Lord, with gifts of guidance and discernment. May the aid and the expertise be channelled to the right people and the right places. May care be taken to listen to the needs and requests of those affected so help can be given where and when it is wanted and needed.

We pray against further disease and disaster for those already brought low by the Tsunami. We pray against those who seek to exploit both people and situations for their own gain.

We pray for the long term healing of those who suffer and those who mourn. We pray especially for the children. We pray for your comfort and your loving presence to support them in the days ahead as they seek to rebuild their lives.

In the name of the Son, in the power of the Spirit, to the glory of the Father, Amen.
