Colin Brown gave up a successful and commercial career as a top airbrush illustrator, providing artwork for companies such as Silentnight Beds, Tescos, Xerox, Cadbury's, British Aerospace and Barclays Bank, to become a Church Army evangelist. Colin’s artistic gifting has been put to use to create high quality printed posters and postcards depicting his vision of the eyes of Christ - which he has now made available for you or your church to buy and use. Inspiration came to Colin through prayer; “I saw an image of Jesus’ eyes and wanted to capture the two emotions of pain and compassion through my art. As I have painted the two pieces, my main aims has been to try to convey in art what I have felt in my heart, reflecting my personal belief and experience about God’s character as seen in Christ.”

Colin’s artwork has been on display during Holy Week in Sheffield Cathedral and Canon Nick Howe comments; “Colin’s images are powerful and arresting and will challenge anyone who views them to confront the suffering and compassion of the sacrifice Christ made for us all.” Visitors to Christian festival Greenbelt were also moved by the images, one visitor commenting; “I was particularly moved when I looked into Jesus’ eyes and saw reflected in them the cross….such love, such pain, but the wonderful power of the cross.”

After being asked by a number of ministers, fellow evangelists and Christians to make the images available Colin considered that God was encouraging him to share his gifts with others in a practical way. “I have been praying daily for God to guide me in a new area of ministry and the answer to prayer was staring me in the face….my artwork. I hope that individuals and churches will be blessed in using these images as they contemplate Christ’s love for us and the meaning of the passion. I am happy to to share my vision as to how the images can be used as part of reflective meditation and prayer sessions.”

As a Church Army evangelist, Colin seeks to help others in the midst of their daily lives to know something of the healing power of God’s love. Colin adds; “The work of Church Army is to reflect and to share in some measure the depth of love and care that God shows us in the Easter story. As our Easter eggs and the Passion movie reminds us, there is the promise of new life and hope through the death of Christ.”

Philip Johanson , Church Army’s Chief Secretary adds, “Colin’s work is breathtaking and stunning in its depiction of the pain, agony and compassion of Jesus. I know the pictures have already made a great impact.”
