Lings asks if church can really succeed in the workplace
The latest issue of Encounters on the edge Oasis- work in progress explores how the worlds of church and work can be connected and identifies what we are learning about mission to the workplace. Can church be formed in a demanding workplace environment, and if so what would it look like?
George Lings, Director of Church Armys Sheffield Centre and author of Encounters on the edge questions whether mission in the workplace has been undervalued by the church and comments Christians have been insufficiently encouraged to see their work as ministry in its own right and as part of their mission .we need to stop being surprised that adventurous mission tends to create fresh churches rather than be a recruiter for old ones.
Commenting on workplace mission in this issue, which focuses on case studies based in Uxbridge and Edinburgh, the Revd June Hughman from Oasis Uxbridge adds: We have already got people used to doing church at lunchtime during the week so why not continue to experiment with forms of church at lunchtime rather than expecting them to fit in to more traditional models of Sunday church.
