Peter Grieve leads Link-Up evangelism in Hull
Recently appointed by the Longhill Link-Up Trust (LLUT) as project co-ordinator, Church Armys Peter Grieve is making a difference in East Hull s Longhill Estate by bringing a fresh expression of the Church to this part of the York diocese.
My new role as project co-ordinator with the Longhill Link-Up Trust (LLUT) provides me with a hands-on opportunity to shape the nature of a pioneering church and gospel initiative at the heart of the estate, Peter comments, Although it is early days, I have already started to bring the partnership working and the ministry principles I began in Gloucester to this post and I am networking with both Christian and non-Christian organisations who have a role in community development.
Longhill Link-Up Trust is based at St Margarets Church and has recently been equipped with a modern building extension housing a new kitchen, community and cyber café, Connexions access point, toilets and offices; all fully accessible for those with mobility restrictions. The launch event to celebrate the new facilities will take place this coming weekend 10th-11th March, 2005. Peter comments, Through their own services and partnerships with other community organisations and mainstream service providers LLUT offers free internet access and structured ICT courses for adults and young people, baby clinics, tots spots, and a range of childrens activities.
This is all much needed on an estate where over 50% of residents have no qualifications and nearly 47% of households have no working members. The learning opportunities provided enable many local residents to gain skills and confidence to access further training and employment opportunities.
It is a privilege for me to serve here and I feel sure that with the continued prayer and support from supporters it will be possible for me to reach many who would not otherwise have contact with the Christian faith and that one or more fresh expression of church will emerge over time from within the existing community.
