Planning and prayer at the centre of developing a strategy for mission

Church Army’s Jim Currin has produced a “how to” booklet for churches wanting to develop a strategy for mission. Grove Booklet EV68 “How to develop a mission strategy” uses a number of case studies outlining how ordinary churches have set about the task. Jim details a manageable process, using tried and tested exercises, drawn from a wide variety of sources which have been found by a range of churches - urban, rural, large and small, to release their God-given potential.

For more than 20 years, Jim Currin (Church Army Area Operations Manager) has helped congregations develop local strategies for mission. A former Diocesan Officer for Evangelism in Carlisle, Jim, based in Wakefield in Yorkshire, is convenor of the Grove/Church Army Evangelism Group.

The Revd Paul Bayes, National Mission & Evangelism Adviser, Archbishops' Council comments: "A South American proverb says: 'If you don't know where you're coming from and you don't know where you're going, any bus will do". Jim Currin's booklet shows us a better way. It provides a down-to-earth, staged process to help local churches define and sharpen their mission goals, take ownership of them together, and move to put them into action.

Steeped in prayer and richly practical, it's a recipe book for strategic thinking that will help any parish that wants to move on with God."

The booklet priced £3.50 is available from Grove Books, Ridley Hall Rd, Cambridge, CB3 9HU (Tel: 01223 464748) or downloadable from www.grovebooks.co.uk
