What will they believe? - the real challenge for home mission

What will they believe? is the question providing the focus for a new campaign for home mission launched by Church Army to its team of evangelists this week to emphasise the message that mission really does begin at home. The striking new posters, banners, leaflets, mugs and bookmarks all feature images of young children alongside the campaign strapline.

At the heart of these materials, which will be used by WWTBPosterChurch Army evangelists, parish representatives and fundraisers, is a four page leaflet outlining the challenge for home mission in a nation where two-thirds believe the pub has more to offer the community than the church and twice as many young people believe in horoscopes than the Bible.

Having set out the challenge for mission and evangelism, the leaflet describes how Church Army is working across the UK and Ireland to turn lives around, reach those in crisis and make a real difference through work that impacts the lives of individuals where they are and puts Christ at the centre.

It is hoped that thousands of Christians across the UK and Ireland will respond to the challenge of  with prayer, responding to a call to ministry, to work as a volunteer or by providing financial support.

Philip Johanson Church Army’s Chief Secretary comments: “ We find that Christians are really shocked to discover that although there is a growing interest in spiritual issues- people don’t seem to view the church as having the answers to their questions. We feel that the time is right for  to provide a focus to share how important our work is in reaching those who would otherwise have little or no opportunity to hear or respond to the gospel.”

At present around 60% of people are outside of the reach of the church and consider it irrelevant.. Church Army positions itself at the cutting edge of building relationship with these people . This is long term work, and needs profile and funds to ensure that existing projects can be consolidated and that similar work can be established in more areas.”
