Church Army welcomes announcement of new Bishop of Lancaster
28 July 2006
Church Army has welcomed the announcement that the Revd Canon Geoffrey Seagrave Pearson will be the next Bishop of Lancaster in the Diocese of Blackburn. Philip Johanson, Church Army Chief Secretary comments, "It was with great delight that I heard of the announcement of Geoff Pearson to be the next Bishop of Lancaster. Our links go back to the days when he was Assistant Home Secretary of the Church of England Board for Mission and Unity. It was evident in those days that Geoff had a real desire to enable others to be effective in relevant and effective local outreach. He has been a keen supporter of Church Army ministry over the years and currently our own Phil Clark works with Geoff in Liverpool were together they have pioneered some very effective and innovative outreach initiatives including the growing Kidz Klub which is now in contact with over three hundred young people and their families on a weekly basis.
Church Army has a very long standing partnership with the Diocese of Blackburn in mission and evangelism activities and we look forward to developing this even more through out links with Geoff when he takes up the responsibilities as Bishop of Lancaster later in the year. We will be praying for him and his wife as they prepare for all that God has in store for them in the months and years ahead.
