Church Army launches Christmas appeal
24 Nov 2006
Church Army has launched its Christmas appeal to supporters posing the question - How will your community make room for Jesus this Christmas?
The appeal urges supporters to open their hearts and their home to Jesus this season through POSADA - a free gift from Church Army which encourages people to reach out into their community with the good news of the gospel in a non threatening way.
Launching the appeal, Church Army's Chief Executive Mark Russell talked about the excellent work that Church Army evangelists are doing in the UK and Ireland. In his letter to supporters, he said "I am excited. Excited and privileged to be asked to lead Church Army...excited to be at the heart of what God is doing to reach out to people who do not know Him...excited to have the chance to enthuse the church to become more mission-shaped...excited to work with people who want to take the good news of Jesus Christ out beyond the walls of the church to reach people where they are."
The appeal highlights the work of Church Army evangelists Keith Dyde, and Karen Webb, who are reaching people where they are through words and action. With a 25-foot trailer attached to his land rover, Keith travels hundreds of miles each year to schools and public spaces as an 'Ambassador for Christ'. Setting up an outdoor theatre, Keith uses puppets, activities and even magic to show the story of God's love through Jesus.
and Karen Webb travel hundreds of miles around Ireland each year to schools, kids clubs, holiday bible clubs and churches. John and Karen use puppets, story telling, games, quizzes, songs, drama and even circus skills to show the story of God's love through Jesus. John and Karen especially enjoy Christmas because they work hard to give children a chance to understand and experience the true meaning in a fun and relevant way. By sharing the gospel interactively, John and Karen see lives change, bringing hope from despair and happiness from sadness knowing that Jesus makes a real difference to lives.
Commenting on the appeal, Edna Darko-Sarkwa, Head of Fundraising says, "Church Army is doing some exciting work and needs support to ensure that it can continue to impact lives. We very much hope that people will receive the gift of POSADA and use the range of materials, worship resources and children's activities available and perhaps give a gift in return to ensure that we can continue to make a difference where it matters."
POSADA gives more opportunity than ever before for people to connect with Church Army and share how they're making room for Jesus this Christmas. This year Church Army invites you to send in your photo of the most unique place that Mary and Joseph visit as part of POSADA in the weeks leading up to Christmas - there is a £20 gift voucher for the winner. You can also share your stories of your own POSADA journey via an online diary on the POSADA website or take part in an online forum.
