No home no justice - Church Army backs Homelessness Sunday 2007

22 January 2007

Mark Russell launches Homelessness Sunday Jan 2007Church Army’s Chief Executive, Mark Russell launched Church Army's support for Homelessness Sunday (to be held on 28th January 2007) outside the Marylebone Project in London today.

"I am delighted that Homelessness Sunday helps the church to focus on the injustices which society inflicts on homeless and poorly housed people - this is an issue close to the heart of Church Army", says the 32 year old Chief Executive who recently featured on Premier.TV on the subject of reaching out to the vulnerable and marginalised in our society.

The pack for  Homelessness Sunday features the work of Church Army's Marylebone Project and the Bridge Project - both of which focus on meeting the needs of homeless and vulnerable women. Work of church Army evangelists David Palmer (Swansea) and Ralph Upton (Aberdare) are also featured.

Mark Russell adds; "Jesus represents hope for our nation- and it is that hope that we are aiming to share with homeless people through our projects. I have been delighted to see at first hand how a number of our projects are focused on doing just that. Earlier this month our  Bridge Project has seen the first women come through to being resettled in a new community and our Marylebone Project (in association with the Portman House Trust) reported on a year in which 840 women had benefited from its services. I am delighted that some of our work has been featured in the resource pack for Homelessness Sunday 2007."

Homelessness Sunday 2007 is organised by the Homelessness Sunday Partnership - Housing Justice and Scottish Housing Action. For more information see www.homelessness-sunday.org.uk
