Evangelist appointed new Youth Coordinator for Greenbelt Festival

19 November 2007

David BookerDavid Booker Church Army Evangelist has been appointed as Greenbelt's first Youth coordinator to oversee and develop the Festival's programme for young people.David brings some fifteen years' experience working with young people and youth leaders in a variety of settings to his role at Greenbelt.

The skills David brings to this new position are from Church Army for the launch of word-on-the-web – the Church Army's daily email Bible readings for young people, and as regional trainer for the Oasis What every volunteer youth leader should know course. As well as that David has served as Youth Adviser for the Church of England in Leicestershire, contributed to and co-edited the recently published book Young People and Mission (Church House Publications) – a book Greenbelt regular Bishop Roger Sainsbury welcomed for its "big vision of mission that is outward looking."

David Booker says: "I'm delighted to have been appointed to this exciting role because Greenbelt offers young people such a fantastic variety of opportunities. I don't know of any other setting where there is chance to experience worship in so many different styles or to be entertained by such a variety of different artists. At the Festival young people have options to learn and develop creative skills through workshops and to think creatively about what it means to follow Jesus in our culture. Greenbelt really is unique in the way it offers young people so much – from music to skateboarding and from dance to literature. At Greenbelt young people can celebrate being made in the image of God and discover God's concern for the poor and broken. I'm really excited to be a part of the team that makes it happen."
