Belfast Youth put together Holocaust Memorial Day Exhibition
15 January 2008
Twelve Young people supported by Church Army's Val Thom in Belfast have put together a exhibition 'Hated without a cause' which opens to the local community leaders on Tuesday 15 January in Belfast. The idea behind the exhibition came from a reception in St James Palace where the young people had the chance to speak to Prince Edward the HRH Earl of Wessex and the people from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.
The exhibition reflects what the young people found out about the holocaust, when they visited Germany and Poland to experience millions lost their lives and suffered during World War 2. The young people went on to visit a local synagogue in Belfast and came up with an idea of getting a local primary school involved.
The use of graffiti, art, photographs, video diaries and book form part of a multi media presentation produced by the local primary school, will be show to express their knowledge and understanding of the holocaust.
Church Army's Val Thom says "I am so proud of this group of young people and the work they have put into this exhibition. The holocaust is a very difficult subject for young people to cover and they have handled it really well. Its so inspiring that young people of today would give their time and energy over the last 7 months to commemorate a tragedy that took place over 60 years ago."
The Queen's representative for Belfast, Lady Carswell OBE, Lord Lieutenant For the county Borough of Belfast will be attending the official opening of the exhibition. For more information contact Val Thom.
