Cardiff’s Amber Project launches Everybody Hurts
17 January 2008
New DVD on Young People and Self-harm.
Church Army's Amber Project based in Cardiff is hosting the South Wales launch of a unique awareness raising DVD Everybody Hurts focused on young people and self harm.
The event will be held at The Gate, Keppoch Street, Roath at 2pm on Thursday January 24th 2008 and will include a screening of the DVD and an opportunity to hear from workers from Newham Asian Women's Project who developed the film, together with some of the young people from The Amber Project. The event will be followed by tea and the opportunity to network.
The DVD has been written, produced, filmed, directed and acted in by young people in collaboration with The Mouth That Roars on behalf of the Zindaagi (Life) Department at Newham Asian Women's Project. This organisation has done extensive work over the years on an early intervention mental health project, primarily working on preventing the high rates of self-harm among young Asian women and girls.
The DVD was produced in response to research into the need for visual training material on the issue of self-harm from health and social care professionals as well as young people.
In conjunction with The Diana Memorial Fund, Newham Asian Women's Project launched a national self-harm project in 2006, working extensively to consult with young people and professionals across England, Scotland and Wales on the issue of self-harm.
Everybody Hurts addresses a number of key issues including: what self-harm is; why people may self-harm; the common myths and stereotypes; some of the key issues affecting young people who may be self-harming; the different ways that people can be supported as well as how people could support themselves and a charter of recommendations produced by young people for care givers/professionals and policy makers.
All DVDs purchased on the day will be sold for a 20% discount and all funds raised will go towards the provision of women and children's services.
