Dr Who news storyDr Who's staccato-voiced arch enemy the Dalek, along with its creator Davros, brought a touch of menace to a 'Spirituality and Dr Who' event held at Church Army's Wilson Carlile Campus in Sheffield this weekend.

Around 30 Dr Who devotees, some of whom were church ministers, turned up to explore aspects of spirituality that run through a series that has captivated TV viewers since 1963.

The event was the brainchild of Church Army's Andrew Wooding, a lifelong Dr Who fan since Jon Pertwee fell out of the tardis. He managed to tempt authors Peter S Williams, Anthony Thacker and one of the past Dr Who series writers and producers, Barry Letts, to share their experiences and insights.

Davros, courtesy of Simon Peter Bowling from Hyde fundraisers (http://www.hydefundraisers.com/), was deployed to keep the delegates in check along withal life-size Dalek- who adapted his threat from exterminate to excommunicate for the day.

Leeds Vicar Rev Andy Myers said; "A wonderful relevant, vibrant and absolutely relevant day. Dr Who works at many levels for millions of viewers and for me God is alive and at work in Dr. Who – let's hope Christians can have the imagination to make this connection and help people take a second look at some of the messages and storylines."

Organiser of the day, Andrew Wooding added; " It was a joy for me to explore this theme and it was great to see how this wonderful series still captures our imagination over 40 years after it first hit our screens."
