10 June 2008

Tim ThonrtonMark Russell, Chief Executive of Church Army welcomes Tim Thornton's appointment as Bishop of Truro.

The Rt Revd Tim Thornton has been named the fifteenth bishop of Truro. Tim, 51, will cover all of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and two parishes in Devon.

"Church Army is delighted to welcome Bishop Tim's appointment as the new Bishop of Truro. Tim served on the Church Army Board for six years and made a fantastic contribution to the life of Church Army. He is gifted teacher and pastor and I am excited to see how he brings his new vision to this historic diocese. Tim is committed to mission and evangelism and that's good new for Truro. We assure him of our prayers" says Mark Russell.

Bishop Bill Ind, who retired from the post of Bishop of Truro in April says "Tim is very much a man after my own heart, the people of Cornwall will warm to him immediately, for he believes in a gospel accessible to all; he is an experienced, sensible bishop and a first rate communicator who leant much from his time with Bishop David Hope."

Tim will be welcomed at a service in Truro Cathedral on 24th January 2009.
