Mark Russell welcomes appointment of Andy Flannagan as new Director of CSM

Andy Flannagan5 November 2008

Mark Russell, Church Army's Chief Executive, has welcomed the appointment of his good friend and Christian activist Andy Flannagan as the new Director of The Christian Socialist Movement (CSM). Andy is well known as a musician, songwriter, broadcaster and author who trained and worked as a doctor in the 1990s before joining Youth for Christ to oversee their creative, media and political work.

Commenting on the appointment Mark Russell said: "I am excited by the appointment of my good friend Andy as the new Director of CSM. Since our school days in Northern Ireland I have known the remarkable gifts God has given Andy. His passion for engaging with the political structure, and his conviction in a God of Justice make this an inspired appointment. I am thrilled the Trustees have gone for a young dynamic leader to help steer CSM in its next phase. I encourage all Christians whatever their political views to get more involved in politics at all levels and to help make a positive difference in society."

Speaking after news of his appointment was announced Andy said: "In the midst of economic and cultural uncertainty, the kingdom values of the Christian Socialist Movement have never been more crucial, so I am thrilled to accept the role as Director of the Movement. There is a passion stirring across the UK to partner with God in seeking justice, both locally and globally."

Andy will take over from the current Director, Andrew Bradstock, in January 2009.
