Rose honoured by Church Army Jamaica

Rose Huson-Wilkin and Mark RussellChurch Army Jamaica has honoured Jamaican born Minister and evangelist, Rev. Rose Hudson-Wilkin, for her contribution to mission and evangelism both in the UK and in Jamaica.

Since her commissioning in 1982, Rose has established herself as one of the best-known and most influential black female ministers in the UK as well as the first Church Army Evangelist to act as Chaplain to the Queen. The award, which recognises the value of her ministry, was presented to Rose at Church Army's AGM last Thursday by Chief Executive of Church Army in the UK and Ireland Mark Russell.

When Rose originally from Montego Bay, returned to Jamaica as a Church Army Evangelist she worked in Coral Gardens as a parish worker. She later married Ken Wilkin, an English Church Army Captain,and after some years returned with him to England where she was ordained as Deacon in 1991 and then as a Priest in 1994. She was one of the first women in England to be ordained to the priesthood.

Rose is vicar of two churches and currently the Chair for the national committee for minority ethnic Anglican Concerns.

"I am thrilled to present this award to Rose on behalf of Church Army Jamaica in recognition of the significant contribution she has made to the life of Church Army Jamaica and we give thanks to God for her and for the foundation that was laid in her life by Church Army", says Mark Russell who was recently in Jamaica to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Church Army Jamaica.
