Mark Russell pleased to see atheists 'probably' unsure about God!

19 Jan 2009

The Atheist Bus Campaign was launched officially on the 6 January, with adverts that read: There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life. Initially unveiled in October 2008, the campaign is now splashed across hundreds of buses nationwide. Ariane Sherine

Church Army's Chief Executive Mark Russell responded to the initial campaign by welcoming it as another opportunity to open up the public debate on Christianity. Now that the campaign is live Mark was quoted by Christian Today on the day of the launch saying: I love that the advert says 'probably', so it seems the atheists are not sure if there is a God or not!!

Comedy writer Ariane Sherine was inspired to start this campaign after seeing an advert on a London bus quoting a Bible verse and a website address. She says that the message on the website regarding non-Christians convinced her of the need for something more upbeat on the sides of buses.

Interesting footnote: in an interview given to Methodist Web Radio in December 2008, Ariane confirmed that she would be celebrating Christmas.
