Taking the time to let God speak
29 Apr 2009
Nikki Foster-Kruczek talks about the need for patience as an evangelist, and taking each day as it comes, in the May edition of Inspire magazine.
A Church Army Evangelist, Nikki works with the Odyssey Mission Community in Derby, building relationships that will open the doors to the exploration of spirituality and faith. In the Inspire article she gives an excellent example of how a chance remark can lead to a conversation about Jesus. At an 'open dinner' gathering of the Odyssey Community, and those they had invited, a spiritual healer told her: "Nikki, I can see your aura".
This statement caught her by surprise, she admits, but she decided it was best to ask the man what her aura looked like and how he would use that in a healing sense. The long conversation about healing which followed could never have been artificially manufactured with a stranger on the street, for example. However, around a dinner table she found herself talking about Christian healing, and ideas of God and faith.
As Nikki says, "This is what Odyssey is all about, creating opportunities to speak about God. The members of Odyssey spend their time building relationships through their daily life, and then find appropriate ways to share their faith - and they are in it for the long haul."
Like so many Church Army Evangelists, Nikki meets all types of people in Derby, many of whom are searching for faith, community and "this thing called life", as she puts it. Placing an emphasis on 'church' being wherever we find ourselves, and not just a building, means she has much greater contact with those who are searching for God, but don't know where to start.
