Clowns, caravans and a good memory
6 October 2009
A new film from Church Army shows the lengths to which its evangelists are going to spread the Gospel.
Penny Horseman is the Evangelism Advisor to the Chelmsford Diocese where she trains evangelists using the guiding principle of 'why' we need to talk to people about the love of Jesus Christ.
For Penny, the emphasis on 'what' an evangelist should be doing does not get to the heart of mission, or enable Christians to be encouraged to try their hand at evangelism.

"Evangelists have very good memories," she says, "they can remember what its like to be without Jesus in their lives." This starting point is central to her work, and pays dividends when training people how to apply evangelism to the context in which they live.
A born story-teller Penny spends six days of the year leading a team of volunteers from all over Essex in a fresh expression of church for holidaymakers on a caravan park. The abundance of clowns and puppeteers (including one who is only seven years old!) attracts both children and parents to this fresh expression. Most of the families who find the time to think, talk and even pray whilst on holiday are not churchgoers.

Please pray for Penny as she equips her Diocese for mission.
