'Mind Body Spirit' launched at the Marylebone Gym
5 Nov 2009
Hot on the heels of its Time Bank initiative, Church Army's Marylebone Project for homeless women recently opened its brand new gymnasium.
Neil Biles (Marylebone's Acting Project Director) said that it had been "quite a journey" getting the gym built, with Church Army investing £25,000 to make it happen. In addition to this vital funding, a mountain of risk assessments and insurance forms had been completed, and a long search had only recently secured enough fitness instructors to make the gym a viable proposition.
One of those instructors, Mariola (pictured here) was a former resident of the Marylebone Project, who moved back into mainstream society in February of this year. She spoke of her personal ambition to see the gym move from a vision to reality, and how she had enjoyed completing a 13-week programme to become one of its first instructors.
Mariola spoke of her great sense of satisfaction in being able to help residents improve themselves through 'Mind Body Spirit' - as the motto of the gym puts it.
The first few residents have signed up to membership of their very own gym, and the first supervised sessions will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Please pray for the success of Marylebone's Gym, and for the well-being of all the women using the hostel.
