Skateboarding shepherds have the 'Xmas factor'

                                                                                                                            15 December 2009

On Sunday 20 December a short medieval style advent drama will be performed at the former Woolworths site in the town of Hunmanby (1-4pm).

Church Army Evangelist Shena Woolridge has led this new project, as part of her work with the town centre team who are very keen to promote Hunmanby's medieval character, especially through street theatre.

Christmas_hollyShena has written a contemporary script and also commissioned a local costume designer to make traditional costumes, with actors recruited from local churches. The advent drama will feature a skateboarding shepherd and jester-style wise men, and musicians and singers will lead carols around the tree in between performances.

This event is part of a packed advent programme in the local area, including the Adventure Labyrinth at St Mary's Church, Scarborough, and the 'Xmas Factor' on Barrowcliff estate. The Labyrinth (13-17 Dec) enables people to have a quiet space in their walk with God, framed by the beautiful stained glass windows of St Mary's Church and the majestic views of the south bay.

The 'Xmas Factor' (23 Dec) will feature a nativity processing through the estate, and includes street corner drama, carols around the manger and "refreshments for mind, body and spirit".

And there will also be a living nativity procession on 20 December, leading the community from St Mary's Church to the farm in the village of Cloughton, that will feature children dressed up as nativity characters and live animals!
