Now a Christian website launched by Church Army

News Release: 11 January 2010

Church Army launched the Now a Christian website today, offering a free five-week email course to anyone looking to take the next step on their personal journey of faith.

Designed and written by Evangelist Neil Thomson and Peter Graystone (National Development Officer, Fresh Expression) the course provides a series of very short emails, one per day for five weeks, which deal with everyday concerns about living out the Christian faith.

Neil explains Now a Christian as "a programme to help new Christians explore the implications and understand the delights and complexities of what it is to follow Christ. The website backs this up with activities that allow the user to interact with fellow travellers on this journey."

Now a Christian is intended to be a 'signpost' for people who have made, or are about to make the first step as a Christian. It recognises that not every new Christian is ready to join a group or undertake an Alpha course until they have explored a little more about their new faith for themselves, in a safe and non-threatening way.

Those who made use of Church Army's New to Christianity programme, which ran online for nine years, will also be interested in this new interactive format - and experienced Christians are urged to see how it can benefit them too.

Peter, who gives a full description of Now a Christian on the website film, says: "The emails include some really encouraging verses in the Bible. The most enjoyable part of it is an interactive virtual landscape, where people can record their thoughts in response to the daily emails, and find out what other people who are using the scheme are thinking."

He also outlines the unique nature of the website: "There are plenty of courses and resources for people who want to investigate Christianity and the claims made about Jesus Christ. But there is not much to help them with the next step once their journey of faith has started. Now a Christian helps people who are embracing a new way of life, but want to think about how that works in practice."
