Archbishop opens the doors to the Valley of Hope
News Release: 15 March 2010
The Archbishop of Wales, the Most Reverend Dr Barry Morgan, officially open the new offices of Church Army project Valley of Hope on Thursday 11 March.
Valley of Hope (in Aberdare, Wales) supports vulnerable people in settling back into the community. The project was set up to help clients with drug and alcohol dependencies along with ex offenders, who are so often ridiculed by society for their given lifestyles
The spacious offices opened by the Archbishop were secured for the project with significant help from the Welsh Assembly Government. The offices will be a base for the team, but also include space for ministry and groups to meet as well.
The Archbishop said: "This project opens doors to people who feel shut out, offers friendship to those who hate themselves and gives fresh starts to those who feel they're at a dead end. It is an inspiring example of the Christian message at work right in the heart of our communities. I am delighted to dedicate this new office, and I pray it will enable the project to continue to all with hope for a better world."
Church Army's Chief Executive, Mark Russell, said: "Valley of Hope is an inspiring project, reaching broken and vulnerable people and helping them rebuild their lives. The support that Ralph Upton and his fantastic team provide has been key for so many people in enabling them to turn their lives around. We cannot thank the Welsh Assembly enough for their generosity. By funding these offices they are helping this project to provide even greater help to those in need in this community."
Ralph Upton, who leads the Valley of Hope project said: "Archbishop Barry has been a faithful supporter of the work we do through Valley of Hope. The Team is eternally grateful for the funding that has been sourced via the Welsh Assembly."
