Mark Russell calls on new voices for General Synod
News Release: 16 April 2010
Church Army's Chief Executive Mark Russell has challenged Anglicans to “be part of the solution, not just shouting at the problem” and stand for election to The General Synod of the Church of England.
Mark’s comments are made in a new six-minute film 'Be Part of the Big Picture' which is the centrepiece of a new national campaign which calls on “people with a big heart” to get involved at this crucial time.
A member of the House of Laity on the Synod since 2004, Mark is passionate about getting a wider cross-section of the church and more young people involved in its affairs, and has used the DVD to challenge Christians who said that Synod has no relevance to them.
“Are you interested in how the Church spends its money? Are you interested in how we treat our clergy? Are you interested in the ministry and mission of the Church of England? ....Well, this is the place where it happens”.
Election is by proportional representation nomination papers ,which must be issued by 20 July. These need to be received by 3 September and a new Synod will be inaugurated in London on 22-24 November 2010. For more information on how you can get involved go to this link.
