"God loves you to bits!"
News Release: 24 May 2010
A new film from Church Army showcases the work of Town Centre Evangelist Debbie Orriss.
Before moving to High Wycombe, near Oxford, Debbie worked as part of the teaching team at Church Army's Wilson Carlile College of Evangelism in Sheffield. Her new role has a two-fold purpose.
Firstly, Debbie is responsible for ensuring that All Saints church fulfils its mission statement, namely: "to make the church a place where the whole community can encounter God." In short, Debbie is getting the church members to go out into the town and make contact with those outside the walls of the building.
Secondly, she is there to develop fresh expressions of church for the many people who don't go to church on a Sunday. She has created a sacred space at the Wycombe night-shelter; a drop-in centre for homeless people. Debbie believes that the people who access the drop-in see it as the only time many of them find any quiet time to themselves, away from the noise and harassment of living on the streets.
Some of the people who have been helped through the drop-in speak of the good work being done through these new connections between the church and the community.
Debbie says she is inspired by the need to tell people who need a fresh start in life that God loves them to bits!
