News Release: 01 July 2010

Mark Russell and Rose Hudson-Wilkin Rose Hudson-Wilkin, who joined Church Army at the age of 18, has been appointed as Chaplain to the House of Commons.

In February 2008, Rose was appointed Chaplain to her Majesty the Queen. Later that year, she was presented with an award by Church Army's Chief Executive Mark Russell (pictured) for her services to evangelism and mission in both the UK and Jamaica, where she was born.

“I am delighted Rose Hudson-Wilkin has been appointed as Chaplain to the House of Commons," said Mark. "She is a gifted evangelist and priest, and will bring much to the work of Parliament. Church Army are very proud of Rose, and assure her of our love and prayers for this exciting new ministry.”

When Rose, originally from Montego Bay, returned to Jamaica as a Church Army Evangelist she worked in Coral Gardens as a parish worker. She later married Ken Wilkin, an English Church Army Captain, and after some years returned with him to England where she was ordained as Deacon in 1991 and then as a Priest in 1994. She was one of the first women in England to be ordained to the priesthood.
