Ethos - Church Army values on film

News Release: 07 May 2010

Lily and Elsie Thrush A new film from Church Army describes the ethos of the society in the words of several of its retired evangelists.

Ethos is designed to show how much Church Army values its heritage within the Anglican Church, which will continue to influence the society's future development.

The film features Frank Collier, Rosalie Jacobs, John Smith, Joan Hudspeth, Don Woodhouse, and sisters Lily and Elsie Thrush (pictured here). Each of these Church Army Evangelists was commissioned over 50 years ago, and they talk with passion and pride about the family atmosphere of the organisation founded by Wilson Carlile in 1882.

Between them, they talk about the wide range of work that Church Army has been involved in, and their vivid memories of stopping the traffic on a march from Marble Arch to St Paul's Cathedral!

They all conclude that the reason for establishing Church Army remains the same today: "seeking to go where the church was not".
