Bishop of Sheffield appoints Honorary Canons
News Release: 22 September 2010
The Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft, has appointed three new Honorary Canons of Sheffield Cathedral, including Church Army's George Lings.
George is the Director of the Sheffield Centre Research Unit of Church Army, and was appointed alongside Mick Woodhead (Vicar of St Thomas' Crooks) and Paul Williams (Vicar of Fulwood).
Honorary Canons are given a stall in Sheffield Cathedral and become members of the greater Chapter which meets from time to time to discuss the life and witness of the Cathedral to the City, Diocese and wider community. They can use the title Canon as clergy.
“Each of the new honorary canons have played a significant role in the life of the church and this is a way of marking their particular ministry with thanksgiving,” said Dr Croft yesterday.
The new honorary canons will be welcomed at a special service later in the year.
