Former Xplorer elected to the General Synod of the Church of England

News Release: 26 October 2010

Sam and Mark Sam Follett, 20, has recently been elected as the youngest member of the General Synod of the Church of England. A lay representative for St Albans, he is one of the Synod's youngest-ever members.

Sam took part in Church Army's gap year programme, Xplore, in 2008-09, then went on to be Church Army's CEO, Mark Russell's PA for a year. He is currently studying Physics at Nottingham University, where he attends St Nicholas' church.

Sam says he hopes to "bring some insights into how the Church can better reach young people to help it move forward". He hopes he will be able to encourage more of them to get involved in church structures. "We all know that our Church isn’t perfect; so I wanted to get stuck in and help change things rather than just moaning."
