Mark Russell puts young people on the agenda
News Release: 25 October 2010
Mark Russell urges the Church of England to put young people at the top of its agenda.
In this week's Church of England newspaper, Mark Russell, Church Army's CEO, says: "The Church is wrinkling and shrinking; we are neither reaching nor discipling young people in significant numbers. The Church of England in many places has an average age of over 60, and the missing generations see the Church as irrelevant and sidelined. I passionately believe the Christian message has something powerful to speak into young people's lives. Both as a youth worker, and as CEO of a mission agency, I have seen how creative evangelism can reach young people for Christ."
Church Army and the Archbishop of York's Youth Trust are hosting an event on 3 March 2011 in Sheffield, for Bishops to hear from young people and youth leaders about how they think the church should be reaching their generation.
Mark says: "It will be a day for making practical suggestions, offering models of good practice, and challenging the wider church to take mission to, and with, young people more seriously."
