Leeds Centre of Mission
The vision for Leeds Centre of Mission is to establish a new Youth Church on the Seacroft estate, where young people face many challenges. It is a partnership between Church Army, the Diocese of Leeds, Bishop Young Academy and the Missional Youth Church Network (MYCN). More locally the Centre of Mission works with three churches: St James’s, St Richard’s and St Paul’s.
The Centre of mission is led by Neil Obbard, who is used to tough situations as an ex British Army sniper, yet brings a gentleness and pastoral nature that endear the young people to him.
In the high school Neil takes assemblies, leads activities and supports vulnerable young people. He is recruiting volunteers to begin social activities out of school that will be a stepping stones to exploring Christian faith. These activities will in time lead on to the establishment of new worshipping communities of young people that are appropriate to them and their context.
Neil longs to see young people come into life changing relationships with Jesus Christ: for them to know that they are worth much more than the world says to they are. Our prayer is that they will rise up to be the next generation of leaders not only within the Church but also within the local community.
Other partners include Leeds Faith in Schools and the Mothers Union Leeds Diocese who are helping to resource some of the work.
